Was interesting to learn the design principles behind formal interior design thinking。 Standard measurements and guides to drawing/planning were very helpful。 Assumed the reader was designing for a generously sized space and was lacking in help for small urban flat design on a modest budget。

Apparently a thorough guide for the professional interior decorator， only a small proportion of this book was helpful to me as a private individual trying to figure out how to furnish and decorate a regular， middle-class flat。 The book has lots to say about vast interiors and enormous budgets， but that is， unfortunately， not my circumstances。 What the book does have to say about principles （what do people like and dislike about a space， how should you think about colors and fabrics） was mostly h Apparently a thorough guide for the professional interior decorator， only a small proportion of this book was helpful to me as a private individual trying to figure out how to furnish and decorate a regular， middle-class flat。 The book has lots to say about vast interiors and enormous budgets， but that is， unfortunately， not my circumstances。 What the book does have to say about principles （what do people like and dislike about a space， how should you think about colors and fabrics） was mostly helpful。 However， I seem to disagree severely with the stylistic choices made by the designers heralded by the book: Many pictures of "good" interior design features decoration that is purely ornamental。 I like pretty things， but I dislike things with no purpose。 Possibly， the rating is unfair: The book quite clearly states that it is what I discovered it to be。PS。 Yes， it is December 24th， and I spend a bunch of the evening reading a book about interior design。 Thank you， Covid-19 and pre-emptive self-isolation policies。 。。。more

I got this from the library。。。 it's definitely a text book， and on the whole， the rooms presented were really dated and blah。 In so many pictures - with the poor， very beige lighting （or maybe that was the choice of off-white paper for the book？） - I wouldn't have posted them on my Pinterest。 I thought the book must have been published in the 90s with the weird emphasis on chestnut-medium-brown wood furniture， over-sized couches and pattern clashes and was shocked to see it was just published in I got this from the library。。。 it's definitely a text book， and on the whole， the rooms presented were really dated and blah。 In so many pictures - with the poor， very beige lighting （or maybe that was the choice of off-white paper for the book？） - I wouldn't have posted them on my Pinterest。 I thought the book must have been published in the 90s with the weird emphasis on chestnut-medium-brown wood furniture， over-sized couches and pattern clashes and was shocked to see it was just published in 2018。 There's a range of styles inside， and I liked some of the vignettes， but there was no room that caught my fancy。 I guess it's just American Comfort at boutique prices？ I skimmed the writing and was not drawn in。 I'd read most of the material elsewhere， and while it seems nicely compiled here， I would only recommend this book to a beginning interior design student。 。。。more
